Birth as a human being is a unique chance. For, human beings alone are endowed with discriminating intelligence, that is, the power to reason out the best amongst alternative courses. You are, by design, very far from the animal kingdom (pashu) and very near to Divine (Pashupathi). Do not relapse into animality. Imbibe love, nobility and majesty from the scriptures; they are so full of it! For example, look at the grandeur in behaviour portrayed in Ramayana! After the war, when Ravana fell, Rama sent Lakshmana to the battlefield with the message to see that he is treated like the Emperor of Lanka, and not as a despised enemy. The scriptures have in them such lessons that portray the majesty of virtue (Seelam), action (Kriya) and feelings (Bhava).

生而為人,是獨一無二的機會,因為,只有人才具有明辨的能力,亦即能理性地在各種方案當中作出選擇。你被設計成遠離動物國度,而很接近聖神。不要又回到禽獸了。



 

 

 

 

「好啦,咱們現在在半路上,旅程走了一半,不該站在這裡只顧講話,咱們行動吧,我們直接開始,來吧!要不就為這把弓上弦,拉斷它,要不就和我決鬥!」持斧羅摩命令。聽了持斧羅摩的挑戰,喇希瑪那氣得七竅生煙,就在他準備打斷,狠狠駁斥對方一頓時,羅摩讓他平息下來,說:「這事和你無關,問我的問題,我必須親自回答。你介入我們之間,是有違良好風度的,讓我來處理這個局面」。一番溫情勸說,讓喇希瑪那打住了。可是,當持斧羅摩開始嘲笑羅摩,譏笑他不敢當場接下挑戰時,喇希瑪那再也按奈不住憤慨。

 

 

 

他吼道:「巴格瓦!對於拉斷希瓦之弓的人,要拉斷你那把小弓根本不算一回事,你挑戰羅摩幹什麼?這根本是一件婆羅門的武器嘛!不過是一根庫莎(Kusa)草罷了,我就可以折斷它了──在談笑間,不費吹灰之力。這種小事也要羅摩來動手?我就夠了,不需要假手他人」。喇希瑪那拋出這些話,令持斧羅摩更加火冒三丈。可是羅摩卻冷靜而心平氣和,對喇希瑪那微笑,用柔和的話讓他平靜下來。持斧羅摩愈火大,羅摩的反應就愈安靜、愈加克制。

To get angry is but the effort of a moment; but to get peace, to become unaffected by the ups and downs of life, is the result of years of training in spirituality. - Baba 

It is the internal bliss that should matter to any person, not the external, sensory, objective and the worldly temporary joys. If you can develop the inner poise or equilibrium that is undisturbed by the ups and downs every day presents to you, that is a sure sign of real success! Everyday is similar to the previous days, with the rising and setting of the Sun and the waxing and the waning of the Moon. However, when 365 days are over, we call it a New Year and give it a new name and number. The Sun and the Moon mark ascend and descend of the day. They are however, unaffected by the name or the number for the day or the year. Be like the Sun and the Moon. Do not care about the new name or the number, but do care about your duties, your inner poise and bliss derived from within yourself!

重要的是內在的極樂,而不是外在的、感官的、身外之物的和世俗的短暫快樂。如果你能培養那種淡定自若的平常心,不受人生起伏影響,那很明顯地代表真正成功了。

 

 

 

        生氣只需要片刻的功夫;要得到平靜,不受人生起伏影響,則是多年靈修的結果。

 

 

 

 

 

沒多久,持斧羅摩就控制不住自己了,開始放任舌頭,惡言辱罵紛紛出籠。十車王見狀,甚為驚愕,侍女和僕人紛紛躲了起來,部隊的四大兵種個個嚇得發抖,吠陀學者都嚇壞了。倒是希妲看著這個場面,覺得挺有趣的,她一點也不激動,一點也不憂懼,她給烏爾蜜拉、嫚妲葳和西汝達凱爾蒂灌輸信心,告訴她們,在羅摩這隻獅子面前,持斧羅摩不過是隻瘸的胡狼。見到羅摩申斥喇希瑪那,婆羅多和夏楚格那就無心干涉了,否則他們也會加入戰局,要羅摩准他們戰鬥或接受挑戰。他們讓開一邊,等羅摩下令。瓦西系塔知道過去和未來,他覺悟到,這整件事不過是一齣神劇中的一幕罷了,他默不吭聲,不為所動。

 Purity attracts Divinity. If the iron filings are rusted, even the most powerful magnet 
will not attract them. - Baba

There are two very important statements in the Bhagavad Gita, which you must take to heart and profit from: Shraddhavan Labhate Jnanam (The one steady in faith gains wisdom and liberation) andSamshayaathma Vinashyathi (Doubt leads to perdition, spiritual ruin). Dwell on these axioms and practice the spiritual disciplines of repetition of the Lord’s name and meditation on His form. Gopis of Brindavan yearned for the Lord with purity in their hearts and attained union with Him. You too must fill your mind with His beautiful form and contemplate on the glory of the Lord. Then you can attain Divinity. This is the pursuit that is worthy, not the pursuit of fame, nor the friendship of the famous.

博伽梵歌中有兩句非常重要的話,一定要牢牢記住,從中受益:「信心堅定者,得智慧並了生死。」和「懷疑導致靈性的毀滅」好好想想這兩個原理,練習唸誦主的名號,觀想祂的形象。當年那些在布林達梵的牧女,以純潔的心思念聖主克里希那,而與祂合一了。你也要讓內心充滿主的美麗形象,沉思祂的榮耀殊勝,那你就能抵達上帝。這些才值得追求,而不是追求名望或結交名人做朋友。

 

 

 

 

 

「因此,我要讓全天下知道你的真實面目和你的法力。我已經將我的法力獻給你了。我也再次證明了你就是法力無邊的篦溼努,是導演整齣宇宙大戲的神,萬物之中莫不有你的存在,萬物無一不是你,你是一切萬有,你擁有一切。我有幸使用你這把神弓一段時間,因此而贏得世人尊敬,那是我得到的功德,現在將它獻給你。」說完,持斧羅摩就消失無蹤。

 

 

 

羅摩面帶笑容,神色自若,把弓和箭交給水神伐樓那(Varuna),然後向站在一旁的瓦西系塔和十車王頂禮。十車王從頭到尾一直嚇得發抖,擔心這個妖怪出現,兒子會有什麼三長兩短、災難臨頭,這下他不焦慮了,他把羅摩拉近,憐愛地百般撫摸他,托起兒子的下巴,讓他臉朝上看著他,不知該怎樣用言語表達他的感受,說道:「兒啊!我真幸運,我一直擔心能否再見到你,你堅決的勇氣,你的英雄行徑,實在超乎想像」。十車王如是大大誇獎羅摩一番,並百般讚賞他的功績,羅摩回答說:「正法(Dharma)必須贏;勝利總會伴隨『義』而來,在奮鬥的初期,也許會有些恐懼,也許會遇到一些看來難以克服的障礙,甚至令人變軟弱,令人懷疑恐怕會失敗、被擊倒。可是,不要向它低頭,應該專注於目標,那就絕對不會失敗,失敗永遠影響不了它。世人不去深入去細看正法的力量,一點點表面上的障礙和憂慮,就把他們沖走了,於是他們放棄義這條道路,然後就受苦了。事情這樣演變,是最好的,我把這情況歸因於您的祝福。」

 In the firmament of your heart, the mind and the intellect must shine as the Sun and the Moon;Karma is like the clouds that pass; do not worry about them. - Baba

The Sun is up in the sky during the day. It is the passing clouds that hide it from your vision sometimes, is it not? Similarly, the sensory world is the cloud that hides the Divine (Atma), ever shining in the firmament of your heart. The same mind that gathers the clouds also has the capability to disperse them in an instant! The wind gathers the clouds from all quarters and renders the sky dark. Sometimes, in a few moments, the same wind can change the direction and send the clouds in a scurry to wherever they came from! Then, the Sun becomes visible. So your mind is all powerful. Train it to disperse the clouds, not to gather them. Every aspirant must accomplish this training of their minds by following rigorous and systematic discipline.

在白天,太陽高掛天空,有時候是烏雲遮住了它,讓你看不到,是不?同樣的,阿特曼其實永遠在你內心的穹蒼照耀著,是感官世界的烏雲遮蔽了阿特曼。心念將雲聚集起來,它也有能力在一瞬間吹散它們!風將四處的雲吹來,讓天色暗下來。有時候,過了一會,同樣的風會轉向,把雲吹回去!然後就可見到太陽了。所以,你的心念非常有力,要訓練它去吹散烏雲,而不是將雲聚集起來。每位求道者都務必要靠嚴格的修行,來訓練自己的心變得如此。

 

 

 

 

 

言畢,羅摩再度頂禮父親,說:「軍隊在等候您下令繼續向阿幽德亞前進,請對他們下命令,」十車王聞言甚為高興,說:「兒啊!咱們何須再耽擱?悲傷和快樂一個接一個侵襲我們,讓人身心痛苦不堪。咱們可以回京城,在那裡以最好的方式快快樂樂過日子」。他把大臣召來,叫他們命令軍隊前進。

 

 

 

士兵們高興得歡呼,開始前進,一段恐懼的插曲過去了。一路上十車王描述,並高興地聽他們描述,這一天來所發生的驚人事件。快抵達京城時,他們派一支先遣部隊去通知城內百姓,大隊人馬,包括兒子和媳婦們,即將抵達。想起在米堤拉以及一路上經歷的輝煌榮耀,先遣部隊如射出的箭,飛進城裡,宣佈羅摩、喇希瑪那、婆羅多、夏楚格那帶著他們的新娘要進城了,十車王派他們先來報佳音。

 To develop your moral and mental strength, one should practice Sadhana and learn to discipline one’s mind. - Baba

You ask for Grace, which is rare and is available at a high cost. However, you pay only trash and are disappointed that you are unable to secure it! Isn’t it sheer avarice! You claim that you have been visiting Puttaparthi (or other sacred places) and have served there, longer than 18 years or so and expect huge chunks of Grace. But it is not the years that matter – what matters is the depth to which the roots of Karma (past actions) have grown from your previous births. It takes a long time and systematic effort to clear the field of all those growths - that effort is the sadhana, of good actions and worship (Karma and Upasana).

你求神的恩典,但恩典少見且價格不斐,而你卻只付了毫無價值的東西,然後得不到恩典,而失望!這不是貪婪是什麼?你宣稱你來訪布達巴底(或別的聖地),並在那裏服務,已經超過18年,你期待大量恩典。可是,關鍵不在於幾年,關鍵在於你的業障之根生長得有多深。清除這些蔓生的根要花很長時間和有系統的努力,那種努力就是修行,是修善行和膜拜。

 

 

 

阿幽德亞的老百姓以各種醒目的風格來裝飾房屋和街道,街道兩邊柱子上綁了香蕉樹,還懸掛了一串串的椰子,到處都灑了玫瑰露,整個京城被點綴得分外迷人。

 

 

 

沿路上,樂師持著樂器各自就位,煙火經過收集再沿路均分,讓繽紛的色彩和歡喜的鞭炮聲能一路連續不斷。群眾以最深刻的喜悅,等待大隊人馬到達,他們翹首望著遠方,希望能第一眼看到,時間一刻刻過去。婦女們頭戴面紗,擠在窗戶旁和屋頂上,或是從帷幕後方窺視。

 

 

 

十車王和他的兒子及媳婦進入阿幽德亞京城。眾人一看到他們,就奏起音樂,響徹雲霄,百姓熱忱地歡呼,高喊勝利、勝利,直到嗓子嘶啞。婦女揮舞著火焰,在隊伍會經過的路上拋花朵,還灑玫瑰露。幾位年輕的王子像明亮的星星,見到那種尊貴的景象,許多百姓都忘了自己身在何處,忘了自己是誰,快樂到無以復加。他們瞧著王子們,不論瞧多久都不滿足,於是他們跟著王子們往回走很長一段距離,就為了能夠目不轉睛地看著他們!就這樣,一行人走完全程,抵達皇宮大門。在大門口,眾婆羅門已經各就各位,唱起吠陀經文,為新人祈福。侍女們揮舞火焰,舉行許多儀式,來驅除邪惡之眼。她們請求媳婦們進來,右腳先踏進門。

The God-centered person has three qualities: Purity, Perseverance and Patience. - Baba 

Vinayaka is the Lord who removes all obstacles. The elephant is noted for its acute intelligence. Ganesha's elephant head symbolises sharpness of intellect and the highest power of discrimination. In a forest, when an elephant moves through the jungle, it clears all the obstacles, and leads the way for others to follow. Likewise, worship Ganesha at the start of any activity. His Grace is sufficient to clear all the obstacles in your path and grant success in your undertakings. The small mouse is a clever and lively creature. Symbolically it implies that we should be wise, agile and diligent in our actions.Vinayaka is a deity of infinite potency, who encompasses the entire universe within Himself. Accord Him a place of honour and secure His Grace. Then your journey of life will be made smoother and happier.

維那亞卡(象頭神)是除障礙之神。大象以其敏銳的智慧著稱,象頭神的象頭象徵銳利的智力和最高的明辨能力。大象在走過森林時,會清除沿路所有障礙,為其他動物開路。同樣的,在從事任何活動之前,要膜拜象頭神,祂的恩典足以清除沿路所有障礙,讓你的事情成功。那隻象頭神身旁的小老鼠,是一隻聰明活潑的小東西,它表示我們在行動時,應該明智、敏捷而勤勉。維那亞卡是有無限潛力的神明,祂將整個宇宙包入自己。要給祂一個榮耀的地位,以便得到祂的恩典,那你的人生旅程就會更平順、更快樂。

 

 

 

這時,考薩雅、蘇蜜特拉、凱易卡乙三位王后已經站在閨房門外,殷切等待兒子們到來。她們在髮際插上灑了檀香水的花朵,在額頭上點了紅點。兒子們抵達,三位王后喜出望外,將他們拉近,疼愛地撫摸他們,拍拍他們的頭和臉頰,深深祝福他們。接著,四個兒子和媳婦頂禮三位母親,母親們紛紛留下高興的眼淚,快樂到無以復加。

 

 

 

這時,宮女帶來用牛奶煮過的米,用金盤盛著,由母親們將食物放進新人口中,勸他們吃下。她們給新人牛奶喝。然後,新人被帶進內房。

 

 

 

到了晚上,阿幽德亞的女士們紛紛受邀來皇宮參加歡迎新人的吉祥盛宴。富麗堂皇的禮臺已經搭了起來,上面擺放了金質的座位。王后們帶來貴重的衣服和珠寶,上面以寶石鑲出富於藝術的圖案,由隨侍在一旁能幹的宮女為媳婦們穿戴上,她們在一旁督導。然後她們牽著媳婦們的手,領她們入座位。

 Love, respect, tolerance, mutual co-operation and forbearance – these must flow from the heart of each to all. - Baba

The Dual or Non-dual approach to Divinity (Dwaitha orAdwaitha) are not distinct; they are stages of mental transformation. The fruit is the same; the sun and soil make it ripen through the intermediate stages of raw, tender and mature fruit. The day you realise that the Lord’s address is as specified in the Gita: “Ishwarah sarva bhutanam, hriddese, Arjuna Thishthati (O Arjuna, the Lord is in the heart of every being)", that day you would have truly attained Him! To realize the Lord in every being, you must cultivate love and drive out the bats of hate, envy and malice that infest the dark caverns of your heart. Let the light of Love illumine your thoughts, your words, your activities, your movements and your judgements. When you are transmuted into love in this manner, the Lord, who is Love-Incarnate, will reveal Himself to you.

        要了悟在一切眾生內部的上主,就必須培養愛心,趕走你內心黑暗的洞穴裡那些憎恨、嫉妒、惡意的蝙蝠。讓愛之光照亮你的思想、言語和行為,照亮你的一舉一動、你的判斷力。當你如此這般地蛻變為愛時,主──祂是愛的化身──就會對你顯現。

 

 

 

這時,羅摩、喇希瑪那、婆羅多、夏楚格那,身穿王子的袍子,戴著貴重的珠寶以及王冠,已經到了那裡就座,各自坐在新娘的右邊。三位母親和從京城受邀而來的女士看著這樣輝煌的情景,大飽眼福,心中的極樂難以形容。典禮一面進行,皇宮外也在進行布施,將大量的牛隻、錢、金子、土地、榖子、車和馬贈給人民。

 

 

 

幾位婆羅門來到禮臺前,將象徵吉祥的米粒撒在新人頭上,一面口中唱誦吠陀經文。然後,已婚婦女們在新人面前揮舞著一百零八盞燈,以驅除邪惡之眼。接著,王子們攜媳婦起身,頂禮母親、父親和古魯瓦西系塔,然後各自回到自己房間。

 Bend the body, mend the senses and end the mind – make this your endeavor. - Baba

One cannot give adult food to a baby – you have to adjust the food to the needs and the digestive abilities of the child and gradually let the tastes develop with age. So too, you cannot reach the peak, in just one jump! It takes persistent effort and gradual progress to get to the top, is it not? Realize that it is a very hard job to negate the evidence of the senses. You can and must overcome the tendencies that have grown within you from hundreds of births. The truth that the world is an illusion and is a manifestation of the Divine is clear to a few, who have reached their destination. If you are an aspirant, until that realization hits you, you must persist in your path, patiently, with hope and sincere effort.

我們不能給嬰兒餵成人食物,你必須適應嬰兒的需要和消化能力,讓胃口隨著年齡逐漸建立。同樣的,你無法一跳就到達頂峰!要靠持久的努力和一點一點的進展,才能登頂,是不是?要明白,取消感官的痕跡是件艱難的工作,你能,而且必須,克服那些數百世以來在你內部孳生的習性。這世界只是幻象,是聖靈的顯現,這個真理只有少數幾個已經抵達了他們目的地的人明白。如果你是求道者,那麼在了悟這一真理以前,你必須持之以恆,具有耐心,滿懷希望,真心努力,沿著你的道路前進。

    這時,可卡亞國(Kekaya)的王子,也就是婆羅多的舅舅,去十車王那裡,向他表示,他從可卡亞國來此地,已經有相當一段時間,「父王在等我回去。倘若他能出席這些慶典,他一定會很高興。他不知道婆羅多結婚的事,要是他獲悉外孫的婚禮已經舉行了,而他居然不在場,一定會很失望。如果現在能送婆羅多與我一起回國,在那裡安排一些慶祝,讓國王感到滿意而高興,就能讓那種失望之情緩和一些。」

 

 

 

    十車王和妻子們商量,然後把婆羅多叫來,「兒啊!你的舅舅禹達己(Yudhajit)一路來到米堤拉那裡,想要接你回去,我沒有同意。我現在聽說你外公很想念你,所以,你就準備跟他回去一趟吧」,十車王命令道。婆羅多說:「爹,要是夏楚格那也能陪我一道回去,那就太好了」。十車王就命令夏楚格那也準備出發。於是,兩位王子各自帶著妻子,啓程去吉里伏拉加(Girivraja)。

Whoever loves and serves all, him the Lord loves and honours. - Baba 

Intellectual scholarship is not very essential for a spiritual aspirant. Develop bliss not by merely mastering difficult scriptures but by cultivating love which begins in your very own home and family, and spreads to all creatures in the Universe. Put down the sharp edged weapon that seeks to analyse and chop the arguments of the opponent, cutting the other’s point of view to pieces. Take the delicacy of love and distribute it to one and all; win over recalcitrant hearts and give joy to all. That is the path of love, along which I shall lead you and guide you. God knows your name, your degrees, profession, status and past, and reveals Himself to you many times, only to satisfy you and give you a glimpse of His love, so that you can mix it with a little of your own and make your life joyful.

對於一位追求靈性的人來說,學識並非不可或缺。要得到極樂,不是僅僅靠精通那些難讀的經典,而是靠培養愛心,這份愛,始於你自己的家庭中,然後擴展至宇宙眾生。放下那件利刃武器,不要老是用它來分析對方的論據,將別人的觀點切成碎片。放下它,然後拿起那份細緻的愛,將它分給每個人,贏得那些存有反抗心的人,給所有人快樂,那才是愛的法門,是我要領導你走的路。

 

 

 

 

 

    出於對長輩的尊敬,婆羅多打包準備和妻子一同出發,他沒有提出一點抗議,不找任何不去的理由。婆羅多具有最高的思維能力,而且是自己、自己的感官和欲望的主人。婆羅多和夏楚格那攜帶著妻子一路快快樂樂地抵達吉里伏拉加城。外公一直想看看他,見到了他,不住地撫弄,並關懷地問,阿幽德亞人民是否健康快樂。外公說他們幾個人一路風塵僕僕,看起來很疲累,要他們休息一下,於是帶他們到為他們準備的房間。從那一刻起,他對待他們比對待自己的子女還親,照顧他們無微不至。

 

 

 

    雖然外公十分關心他們的舒適和快樂,兩兄弟內心深處卻有些不滿意,因為他們無法忍受和年老的父親及羅摩兩地分離之苦,父親和羅摩是他們的生命。經常兩人聊天,話題都是十車王和羅摩,父王的健康和幸福,不時讓他們憂心,令他們心裡不得平靜。

 

 

 

    在吉里伏拉加的他們,心情是如此,在阿幽德亞,十車王也是無時無刻不思念他們;少了他們,覺得有一種空虛感。有好幾回,他問自己:「我幹嘛派他們去呢?唉!要是當初不同意送他們去就好了」。

 Spiritual Sadhana means cultivating noble thoughts and undertaking good deeds. - Baba

Treading the Spiritual Path (Sadhana) is very essential because the effects of karma have to be removed by karma alone, as a thorn can be removed only by another thorn. You cannot remove a thorn by a knife, or a hammer or even a sword. The knowledge that the world is unreal was spread by great saints and noble souls, who realised the Divine. But great saints like Shankaracharya persisted in activity in the unreal world, through the establishments of mutts, writing of books and participating in difficult debates. This is to illustrate that you cannot desist from doing karma. However, you must take care that it is saturated with love and promotes the welfare of the world. Soak yourself in Love and purify your thoughts and deeds with Love, then the Lord Himself will awaken your higher consciousness!

       靈修是必須的,因為karma(業障)只有靠karma(行動)來去除,就像一根刺只能用另一根刺將其挑出來,你無法用一把刀或槌子甚至一把劍來挑出那根刺。

 

        這個世界虛幻不實,這個知識由那些悟道的聖者傳播給世人。然而,像商羯羅那般的大聖者,仍然繼續在這虛幻不實的世界中從事行動,他建道院、著書、參加艱難的辯論。舉這個例子,是要你認清,不能拒絕去行動。但是,一定要小心地讓這些行動充滿愛,能促進世界的福祉。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    四個兒子就像十車王的四臂,現在被剝奪了兩隻。一日,羅摩見到父親陷入沉思,在惦念著婆羅多和夏楚格那,遂走近父親,坐在一旁,親切柔和地對他說話,讓他開心。羅摩極為和善文雅,不論別人如何對他說難聽的話,他都親切而和悅地回應;雖然別人可能傷害了他,他從不記在心裡。只要一有空,他會和那些年長的僧人、受人敬重的婆羅門和有學問的學者討論行為準則和道德規範。他用簡單的字眼來分析玄奧的吠壇多思想,並像一位普通的探討者一樣,提出問題,請學者們闡明。羅摩自己提出困難的問題,自己詳加闡釋,令那些精通吠壇多科學和哲學探討的聖者和學者們大感驚喜,百般嘆賞他的才智和學識。

 

 

 

    老百姓還未開口,羅摩就主動先對他們說話,他對他們的愛是那般熱忱。他慈愛地詢問百姓是否幸福,對他們充滿憐憫,所以百姓也愛他,視他為最忠誠的朋友和最親近的親屬,因為羅摩對他們親切的關懷而尊敬他。羅摩嚴格遵守各種傳統的生活規矩,不論其造成多麼不便和不舒適。他不論對誰說話,都面帶迷人笑容,眼睛閃耀著快樂的光輝,說出的話字字經久甜美,從來沒有顯現出一絲怒氣、嫌惡、失望、或恨意。

 Desire destroys devotion, anger destroys wisdom, greed destroys work – hence these bad qualities must be sacrificed. - Baba

Devotion (Bhakthi) is the continuous flow of love which is unchanging, sincere and pure (Nithya, Sathya, Nirmalam). There is no one who is devoid of devotion; deep within the core, everyone has the feeling of kinship with all creatures. If you have no love, you are like the lamp without the flame. The presence or absence of the feeling makes a lonely man miserable or makes one likeable to many. Love of the pure type is like a bright light. It is not polluted by hate nor is contaminated with greed. Faith in God and faith in doing good is very essential. Also you must have faith in the concept of merit and sin (punyaand papa). This will help you examine each act and consider its consequences before taking the action. Devotion makes you aware of the Lord, who sustains and supports every being and brings you nearer and dearer to Him.

       虔誠是連續不斷的愛之流,它不變、真誠而純淨。沒有人沒有虔誠,在靈魂深處,人人都有與眾生是一家人的感覺。沒有愛,就像一盞沒有火焰的燈。有或缺乏這種感覺,讓一個人孤獨又可憐或是人見人愛。純粹的愛就像明亮的光,不受憎恨或貪婪汙染。對上帝的信心和對行善的信心是不可或缺的,另外,你一定要相信善業和罪業的觀念,這會幫助你檢視自己所有行為,在行動前考慮其後果。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    一晚,十車王忽然覺得口渴,想喝點水。他不想吵醒正在熟睡的王后們,所以自己從床邊一口壺裡倒出一小杯水。喝水時,他發現自己的手抓不穩杯子,手指在抖!之後他一直睡不著,腦中想著許多事情,最後,他推斷,是年紀老了,身體衰弱了。他決定,不該再繼續統治國家了。缺少強而有力的四肢和意志,統治百姓,只會造成混亂和災難。他躺在床上數時間,等待天一亮就通知大臣這個決定。長夜終於退去,黎明來到。

 

 

 

    做完早上的淨身和每日例行的膜拜儀式後,他就吩咐侍從去召集大臣、人民領袖和僧人,到王宮來開特別會議。不一會兒,所有他要的人都遵命到齊,等候待命。十車王向瓦西系塔頂禮,告訴他昨晚發生的事,以及他心中一連串所想的事,他說,他決定把治國重擔交給羅摩,請求上師不要反對,他要人盡快做好一切安排,實現他這個願望。

 People understand God in the context of their own nature. - Baba

The love of the Gopis towards Krishna has led many ignorant people enmeshed in worldly attachments and physical attractions, to turn their faces away from God. Before passing judgement on any subject, you must investigate closely. The love of the Gopis towards Krishna was super-physical, the love of the soul for the Over-soul, of the river for the sea. Their joy when they feel His presence is as supreme as their grief when they feel they are deprived of it. That is why among the songs of the saints, you have Nindhaasthuthi also; that is to say, songs, which blame Him for being cruel, partial, negligent, etc.! Persons deep in this type of love see nothing else, hear nothing else; they behave like mad persons in the world’s view.

  人都是各自依其本性,從自己的角度來了解上帝。

 

 

 

 

 

    宰相蘇門達拉對所有到齊的人宣佈國王的決定,在場的大臣、百姓、祭司、學者紛紛盛讚這項決定,歡呼道:「殊棒!殊棒!(Subham!subham!「太祥瑞了!我等三生有幸」)。歡呼聲響徹雲霄。瓦西系塔起身說:「王!這件事你完全不用擔心,從各方面看,羅摩都適合扮演這個偉大的角色,但是咱們不妨稍微等一陣子,然後舉行盛大的慶祝,邀請所有我們想要他們來的人,我建議咱們等個一、兩個月,讓羅摩的加冕典禮可以如我們所希望的那樣,儘量盛大。」

 

 

 

    可是十車王卻喊道:「大聖!沒有一件事在您眼界之外,您無所不知。當一位國王四肢失去力量時,他已經不夠資格掌理國政。一位國王,年老力衰,還貪戀王位,是不好的徵兆,顯示他內心的貪念。若我明知這些,還作反抗,那我會連很明顯的職責都無法盡到。請原諒我,不要延期,讓我在兩三天之內立羅摩為王位繼承人」。十車王如是萬分謙虛而恭敬地請求。

You worship with faith and you will experience Grace. Faith results in Grace, without your being aware of it. - Baba 

Look at Arjuna! When the choice was placed before him to decide which he should receive – the entire army of redoubtable Yadhava war heroes or Lord Krishna alone, unarmed and refusing to fight – without any hesitation, he chose Krishna alone! He knew; he believed; and so, he was saved. What profit will an individual or country make if it accumulates money, gold and grain? The bliss derived from the worship of the Lord which arouses spiritual joy is, any day, far more desirable than the above. Want of faith is a source of true weakness. Love (Prema) is the seed, the overpowering experience of merging with the Divine is the tree (thanmayathwam), and inexhaustible bliss (Anandam) is the fruit. Achieve this consummation with firm faith in the Divine.

       信心是最必要的,看看阿周那!當兩種選擇──Yadhava氏族可畏的英雄戰士們,還是手無寸鐵、拒絕戰鬥的主克里希那──擺在他面前時,他只選了克里希那!他知道,他相信,因此他得救了。當主已經來到人間,就在此處示現祂的真實形象時,今日的印度,也面臨同樣的選擇。國家積累錢財、金子、穀物,有何好處?從膜拜上帝的名號和形象所得來的法喜,比這些重要得多。缺乏信心是各種軟弱之源。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    瓦西系塔扶起十車王並給予他祝福,說:「王啊!羅摩的婚禮也是憑一時的衝動!是從天上掉下來的恩典,因此您的王國的子民沒有機會在那重要場合分享那份快樂,要是這回加冕也是突然下決定並舉行典禮,那不但會讓各地的籓王感到難過,更會成為婆羅多、夏楚格那兩兄弟的一大遺憾,而且賈那卡──他現在已經是你的親戚和朋友了──可能無法參加!所以我建議,在決定日期之前再多考慮一下」。

 

 

 

        這時,宰相起身說:「請尊貴的皇家老師原諒!國王的決定,大家一致讚賞。月羅摩(Ramachandra。Chandra:月亮)人如其名,像月亮一般驅逐白日的灼熱,恢復大地的涼爽,他除去由憎恨、惡意、貪婪、嫉妒造成的痛苦,不該為了任何理由而耽擱了加冕他為王位繼承人這件事。王啊!我在代表全國人民懇求這件事」。

Do all acts as offerings to God - Baba

A devotee of Hanuman was once driving a cartload of grain to the market. On the way, one wheel got stuck and the cart could not be drawn forward. The cart slanted too, and a few bags fell on the ground. The devotee sat on the cart and started praying to Hanuman. He completed chanting the 108 names and even the 1008 names. When nothing happened, he started blaming the Lord and reviling Him for not rescuing him. Hanuman then appeared and took him to task! “Young man, instead of doing your duty by applying your strength on the job, you sat there, prayed and started reviling Me!” Come on, put your shoulder to the wheel and lift it up chanting My name! First contribute self-effort,” said the Lord. You must use all the talents awarded to you in a prayerful and humble mood. Until then, you have no right to seek the help and intervention of the Lord.

        有一次,一位猴神哈努曼的信徒載了一整車的穀子去市場,在途中,一個車輪卡住了,車子拉不動了,而且向一邊傾斜,幾包穀子因而掉落地上。這位信徒坐在車上開始向哈努曼祈禱,他唸完神的108個,甚至1008個名號。結果甚麼也沒有發生,他開始埋怨神,罵祂不來救他。這時哈努曼現身!責備他:「年輕人,你不履行你該盡的職責,運用自己的力氣來做這個工作,反而坐在那裡祈禱,然後開始罵起我來!好了啦!拜託你用自己的肩膀把車輪頂起來,同時一面唸我的名號!先付出自己的努力,」神如是說。你一定要運用自己所有才華,同時抱著祈禱而謙虛的心情,在那之前,你沒有權利尋求主的介入和幫助。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    當這位市民代表整個藩屬國所有百姓如是發言時,十車王對全場的人說:「各位與會者!這些年來,我按照祖先立下的路線來統治這個帝國,盡力保護其福祉和昌隆,真心想要讓全天下更好。我一生都花在這個寶座上方的大白傘下,如今我垂垂老矣,我發現我這四肢的活力消退了,這副已經損傷的身體需要一點休息了。我已經這樣決定,統治一個王國不是件容易的事、不是一件微不足道的任務,因為那要求一個人要致力於行義(Dharma,正法)。只有不斷的從事修行並嚴格控制感官的人,才能在治國時維持正法於不破。我肩負這個重責太久了,我已經精疲力竭。若大家贊同我的計劃,那我就說給各位聽,我絕對不會違反各位的意願而行之。」

 

 

 

    「沒有給各位壓力,不用害怕我在強加自己的意願於你們身上,或是認為這是聖旨,不得不從,我讓你運用自由意志,自行判斷。要是你忽然想到還有更佳的安排,你完全有自由在大家面前提出,讓大家給予公正的考量。所以,各位請自行商量一下,在黃昏前告訴我諸位的協商結果」。

 Aspire to cultivate divine virtues, not riches, comforts and luxuries. - Baba

The master of the house makes all the elaborate arrangements for a marriage in the family. He plans meticulously for the wedding ceremony, the reception, the menu, the illumination, the music, the decoration, etc.. These are very exciting when they are being planned and even while they are executed. But in the end when the bills arrive, will the master still be happy? In quite a few places, after the event is done, there may even be angst, disgust and grief. Isn’t it known from such experience that there is more joy in the actual doing than in the result that accrues. So it must be easy to discard the fruits of action, provided you spend some thought on the process ofkarma (performing action), and the worth of its fruit.

    要渴望培養神性的美德,而非財富、舒適和奢華。

 

 

 

 

 

    十車王還沒有講完,全場的人就興奮騷動起來,好像一群孔雀看到天空烏雲密佈,像是要下大雷雨,而歡欣地啼叫一樣。他們以毫不模糊含混的字眼大聲表示贊成、表示他們的感激和喜悅,「您儘管要您自己心裡想要的東西,我們不要別的禮物,就給我們這項禮物吧。這實在太幸運了,祝您們好運!王位繼承人Ramachandrajiki Jai,Jai Dasaratha Rama(Ramachandra:月羅摩;  Jai:勝利;Dasaratha:十車王)。」歡呼之聲響徹雲霄。聽到這樣受歡迎的喝采聲,十車王一則以喜,一則以憂。

 

 

 

    全場自動爆發出來的忠誠和情感,讓十車王站在那裡呆住了,良久才恢復過來,他注視著全場的人,開始說道:「各位參加這次會議的成員!對我來說,沒有比應允各位的願望更重要的事,我該加冕羅摩為王位繼承人,不遲誤。不過,我也有些許的憂慮,我要解釋給各位聽,並從各位口中得到安慰,我希望各位據實說,讓我能感到滿意。是這樣的,剛才在我即將向各位提議,立羅摩為王位繼承人時,我還沒有說出來,你們就說我一定要為他加冕,不要遲誤,你們說他具有無限能力,能有效率地好好統治這片疆土。表面上看來,這顯然表示諸位對我的統治有一點點不滿,或是我的一些法令和各位的興趣或意願相牴觸,還是我有什麼違反了義(Dharma)的癖性?你們是因為懷疑我的治國能力,才盼望羅摩被加冕為王位繼承人?各位請儘管指出我的過失或錯誤,我歡迎各位坦白直說」。

 A true human being is one who has the noble qualities of adherence to truth,
duty, devotion and discipline. - Baba

The jeevi (individual soul) has come to this birth in order to reveal the splendour of the spark of Godhead which It is. A rat is attracted by strong smelling cheap little stuff inside the trap; it neglects all other articles of food in the granary, and thus falls a prey to its own foolishness. Similarly people disregard and waste their life in the pursuit of mortal riches. Be aware and alert. Live in the world but develop the skills to wonder and discriminate between the eternal and temporary. Learn to see through this drama and discover the Director behind the scenes, who is none else than God. You can easily develop these skills through devotion (Bhakthi), based on performing duty without any expectation of results (Nishkama Karma).

       一隻老鼠被陷阱裡面氣味強烈的廉價誘餌給吸引了,牠忽略穀倉裡所有其他可吃的東西,結果成為自己愚昧的犧牲者。人也是一樣,忽略了他真正的食糧,而浪費他的生命去追求生不帶來、死不帶去的財富。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    「大王!」瓦西系塔回答,「我所有事情都準備好了,我們隨時都可以開始。我已經要人在明日破曉前,備妥一百只聖壺、虎皮、覆蓋住的火祭圍場及其附屬的東西、經典上規定的祭拜儀式要用到的材料、藥草和花。不只這樣,另外我還通知四翼大軍作好準備;還有大象,按照經典規定在牠身上畫上各種吉祥的符號,並給牠穿上最華麗的衣服;另外,華麗大白傘、王朝的旗幟也都會在王宮裡準備好。良辰吉日也選定了,是明天」。瓦西系塔一宣佈這個好消息,民眾感激得狂喜,高興得雀躍不已。

 

 

 

    外面道路都特別打掃過,並在路面上,以及面對路的牆壁和屋子,都畫上精巧的圖案;家家戶戶懸掛花綵;道路上立起了拱門、遮陽篷、遮陽傘。每位市民都忙碌而快樂,整個城市都在迅速而興奮地工作,祭司和市民領袖們辭別了十車王,魚貫走出王宮,十足像一支高興而彼此興奮交談的隊伍。大臣們和瓦西系塔和十車王進入內殿。

 Dedication ensures success, purifies inner vision and gives lasting joy. - Baba

Every one of you has in possession a ticket for liberation from the cycle of birth and death. But most do not know the train that has to be boarded; many get down at intermediate stations, imagining them to be the terminus and wander helplessly in the wilderness, or are carried away by sights and scenes. Until the wound heals, and the new skin is formed and hardens, the bandage is essential. So too, until Reality is realized, the balm of faith, holy company and holy thoughts must be applied to the ego-affected mind. It is dedication to the Lord that sanctifies all activities. He is the Prompter, the Executor, the Giver of the required strength and skill, and the Enjoyer of the fruit thereof. So dedication must come naturally to you, for all is His, and nothing is yours. Your duty is to believe that He is the impeller of your activities and draw strength from that belief.

     是對主的那份奉獻之心意,聖化了你所有的行動。是祂在促使,是祂在執行,是祂給予力量和技能,祂也是行動之果實的享受者。所以,奉獻之心必須是自然而然地生起,因為一切都是祂的,沒有甚麼是你的。你的義務是:相信祂是自己行動的推動者,並從那種信念中汲取力量。

 

 

 

 

 

    十車王傳喚羅摩,到覲見廳見他,對羅摩解釋所有加冕的禮節和儀式,提醒他要在日出前作好準備,又交代了一些他要遵守的初步行動。喇希瑪那聽到這個消息,高興不已地跑去羅摩母親考薩雅那兒報喜,考薩雅聽了喜出望外;她就在那裡等候羅摩過來。時間只剩下一點點,所以,整座城都興奮地盼望這一刻的來臨。附近數里內的村落,甚至鄰近的州,都很快便獲悉此一消息,因為喜訊傳得特別快。而且大家只要一聽到消息,就爭先恐後趕赴京城。往阿幽德亞的各條路上人潮洶湧,幾近失控。
